Orlando Bound!
Every year Foreign Service medical providers from around the globe meet up for a week long continuing education conference.
It’s a jam packed week filled with pharmacology updates, practicing emergency medical skills and of course meeting up with old friends. It was great to see my friends from orientation and hard to believe that we are already 6 months into our two year assignment.
Right before leaving for the conference, I spent an evening in the local ER with a sick patient. Part of our job is being available after hours for emergencies. It takes some sensitivity in these situations, because my job is to ensure that the local hospital is delivering appropriate medical care- this of course can rub the local medical staff wrong if not done delicately and respectfully. In this case I had to gently advocate for certain procedures and imaging. All went well, and the patient was super grateful to have someone advocating for them- as you can imagine it can be nerve wracking to be alone in the ER in a foreign country, so I’m happy to provide support in these stressful situations.
In other news: one month until we will receive our next BID list! It’s exciting to think about where we may head to next. As much as we are loving life in Africa- we are hoping to mix things up and head to another region next.
For now we will continue to enjoy Buja.
Next up: Our first R&R is right around the corner, 2 weeks of a much needed vacation. and now I’ll leave you with one of my new Fav Afro beats below ⬇
